Energy efficient distillation

چکیده

Distillation is responsible for a significant amount of the energy consumption of the world’s process industry and also in the natural gas processing. There is a significant energy saving potential that can be obtained by applying new energy saving distillation technology that has appeared in the last two decades. The fully thermally coupled dividing wall columns have the attractive feature of both savings in energy consumption and reduction of investment cost. In this paper we give an overview of some energy saving distillation arrangements and show how the Vmin-diagram can be used to assess separations and calculate energy requirements and provide a basis for detailed design. Reduced CO2 emission is an additional benefit that actually comes for free by the reduction of energy consumption. 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Improving the distillation energy network

E nergy costs are the largest percentage of a hydrocarbon plant’s operating expenditures. This is especially true of the distillation process, which requires substantial energy consumption. Concerns over recent high costs and economic pressures continually emphasise the need for efficient distillation design and operation without a loss of performance. This article illustrates how energy-effici...

Synthesis, Design and Retrofitting of Energy Efficient Separation Processes

A new methodology for the synthesis, design and retrofitting of energy efficient separation processes that is based on the concept of shortest separation lines is presented. The basic theory of shortest distillation lines, formulated as a nonlinear programming problem, is given. Two examples are presented that show that energy efficient separations correspond to shortest stripping lines – even ...

DynamicBehaviorofThermallyCoupledDistillationConfigurations fortheSeparationofMulticomponentMixtures

Control properties of thermally coupled distillation arrangements for the separation of multicomponent mixtures were compared to those of conventional distillation sequences. Seven thermally coupled schemes were investigated. The preliminary steady – state design of complex schemes was obtained by starting from a conventional distillation sequences and then optimizing for minimum energy consump...

Thermodynamically Efficient Distillation: Ngl Fractionation

The problem of separating the liquid components which have been recovered from natural gas is discussed. Opportunities for improved efficiency using distributed distillation, recycle coupling, heat pumping, and partial effect distillation are presented. Emphasis is placed upon energy efficiency with potential savings in capital costs as applied to heat driven processes.

Preliminary Evaluation for Vacuum Membrane Distillation (VMD) Energy Requirement

The energy requirement of vacuum membrane distillation (VMD) with or without recirculation was modelled using both experimental results and theoretical data. The trends are generally consistent between the theoretical and experimental data. Thermal energy contributes the most to the total energy required for the VMD process. To lower the thermal energy cost, waste heat resource and heat recover...
